Take Five years off of your skin now

Is your medicine cabinet filled with lotions and moisturizers that promise the foundation of youth? We use way more products on our skin now than ever before. A poll found that 24% of women use multiple products per day, but is it really necessary to use so many products for better skin?

Using so many products can actually backfire because it increases the risk of exposure to harmful substances that are used everyday. Even though the FDA banned a number of dangerous ingredients from being used in beauty products, there are still many harmful substances that are used everyday. These ingredients can be cancerous, such as formaldehyde and others that can interrupt the endocrine system. Fragrances can cause allergic reactions such as swelling and rashes. How can you limit exposure to harmful ingredients? Here is a simple skincare routine:

Step one

Clean!

Find a cleanser that fits your skins needs. If you have oily skin opt for a cleanser that host honey because it’s an antibacterial. If your skin is dry try oil or butters to soothe. For sensitive skin a gentle cleanser will work best without causing irritation. You can even opt to make your own cleanser with yogurt. Start by gently rinsing your face with warm water, pat dry because rubbing can cause slight irritation but if you must use soft upward motions. Apply a small amount of yogurt and honey to your face and let it sit for a few minutes. Wash the yogurt off and pay dry. Your skin will instantly feel clean.

Step Two

Protection

Antioxidants fight free radicals that can damage and age skin. The most common topical antioxidant is vitamin c. Try an organic serum and make sure it’s in a bottle that has no exposure to sunlight. Sunlight can oxidize vitamin c, turning it brown and making it useless.

Step Three

Health

Antioxidants fight free radicals. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can still harm your skin. Sunblock with an SPF of at least thirty can prevent your skin from premature aging and protect it from future skin cancers.

Evening

It is very important to clean your skin every night. The day is filled with dust, dirt, and pollution. Overnight the substances can clog pores and damage your skin. Your face needs to breathe at night and it is unable to accomplish that overnight while covered in dirt. Your skin will begin to transform in about three weeks. The things you put in your mouth and on your skin can impact how quickly your skin ages.
